► (1906-45) Teólogo evangelista alemán, nacido en Breslau. Estudió teología en Tubinga, Berlín y Nueva York. Sus obras principales son Acto y ser (1956) y Ética (1958).

Pastor y teólogo luterano alemán. Estudió en las Universidades de Berlín y Tubinga, y desde 1931 enseñó teología en la Universidad de Berlín. Se transformó en el portavoz principal de la Iglesia confesante y participó activamente en la resistencia, protegido por su empleo en la inteligencia militar. Fue arrestado y encarcelado en 1943. El descubrimiento de documentos que lo implicaban en el atentado de 1944 contra la vida de Adolf Hitler llevó a su ejecución un mes antes del fin de la segunda guerra mundial. Se le considera uno de los teólogos más perspicaces del s. XX que defendió una nueva visión del cristianismo, que suprimiría la división entre lo sagrado y lo profano y abandonaría los privilegios tradicionales de la Iglesia en favor de una participación activa en los problemas del mundo. Sus obras más conocidas son El precio de la gracia (1937), Ética (1949) y Resistencia y sumisión (1951).
